Carrying the Legacy: My Family’s Journey with Dopff & Irion

Growing up with the Irion name, I’ve always felt deeply connected to the vineyards and traditions of Alsace, France. Our story begins in Riquewihr, a medieval jewel tucked into the Alsatian hills, where the Château de Riquewihr—built in 1549—once housed the Princes of Württemberg. Today, that same château anchors our winery and heritage.

In 1945, my family united with the Dopff family to form Dopff & Irion. Together, we envisioned a future where the identity of each vineyard—each terroir—would shine through in every bottle. It wasn’t just about the grape variety; it was about expressing the soul of Alsace.
Our wines soon found their way into historic moments:
In 1962, our Riesling Clos des Murailles was served aboard Le France, the world’s largest cruise ship at the time.
In 1970, Riesling Les Murailles graced the table of the Élysée Palace, residence of the French President.
Today, the estate spans 27 hectares, including prized Grand Cru sites like Schoenenbourg. In 1998, we joined the Cave des Vignerons de Pfaffenheim to strengthen our reach without compromising quality. Awards followed—French Wine Producer of the Year in 2002, and Best National Producer in 2016 at the Austrian Wine Challenge.
This legacy isn’t just history—it’s a living story I’m proud to carry forward. Each bottle is a tribute to the land, the families, and the generations who made it all possible.
